One of the most (okay, the MOST) frustrating part of running Hannah Rose Photography is the dreaded spam or junk folder. I have many clients each year reach out because they didn't receive a receipt, their digital dowloads, or even the link to their portrait gallery! While there is no sure fire way to prevent important HRP communication from ending up in your spam folder, there are a couple steps you can take to lower the risk.
Yahoo Emails
- Mark as Not Spam: Open your Spam folder, select the mislabeled email, and click the "Not Spam" button (or the three dots/More menu). This will train Yahoo's filter to send future messages to your inbox. You may be forced to do this a few times before Yahoo learns HRP isn't spam!
- Add HRP to Contacts: Save HRP's email (hannah@hannahrosephotollc.com AND hannahrosephotoiowa@gmail.com) to your Yahoo Contacts list. Yahoo is less likely to filter messages from known contacts into the spam folder
- Create a Custom Filter:
- Click the Settings gear icon in the top right corner of Yahoo Mail and select More Settings.
- Choose Filters from the left menu.
- Click Add new filters.
- Give the filter a name, such as Hannah Rose Photography.
- Enter hannah@hannahrosephotollc.com AND hannahrosephotoiowa@gmail.com in the From field.
- Select your Inbox as the destination folder.
- Save the filter.
Gmail Emails
- Mark as Not Spam: Open your Spam folder, select the HRP email, and click Not spam. Gmail says that removing a legitimate message from Spam helps ensure future messages from that sender aren't sent to Spam.
- Add to Contacts: Add hannah@hannahrosephotollc.com AND hannahrosephotoiowa@gmail.com to your Google Contacts. Gmail specifically recommends adding a sender to your contacts to prevent their messages from being sent to Spam
- Create a Filter:
- Open Gmail on a computer.
- Click the Show search options icon in the search bar.
- In the From field, enter hannah@hannahrosephotollc.com AND hannahrosephotoiowa@gmail.com.
- Click Create filter.
- Check Never send it to Spam.
- Click Create filter.
.
Outlook/Hotmail/Live/Microsoft 365
- Mark as Not Junk: Open your Junk Email folder, select the HRP email, and click It's not junk. This tells Outlook that the message was incorrectly classified.
- Add to Contacts: Save hannah@hannahrosephotollc.com AND hannahrosephotoiowa@gmail.com] to your Outlook contacts. Outlook generally treats contacts as safe senders.
-
Add HRP to Safe Senders:
- Click the Settings gear icon.
- Select Mail → Junk email.
- Find Safe senders and domains.
- Click Add safe sender.
- Enter hannah@hannahrosephotollc.com AND hannahrosephotoiowa@gmail.com
- Click OK, then Save.
For classic Outlook: Select Home, then Block, then Junk E-mail Options, then Safe Senders, then Add, then enter the HRP email address.
Apple Email/iCloud Email
- Mark as Not Junk: Open your Junk folder and find the HRP email.
- On an iPhone/iPad, move the message from Junk back to your Inbox.
- On a Mac, select the message and click the Junk button to move it back to your Inbox.
- On iCloud.com, open the Junk folder, select the message, and choose Not Junk or move it to your Inbox. Apple states that future messages from the same sender should then no longer be marked as junk.
- Add to Contacts: Save hannah@hannahrosephotollc.com AND hannahrosephotoiowa@gmail.com to your Apple Contacts. Apple notes that emails from people in your iCloud contacts are not sent to the Junk folder.
- If you use a third-party email app: Make sure you also move any HRP messages that have landed in that app's Junk/Spam folder back to your Inbox.
AOL Email
- Mark as Not Spam: Open your Spam folder, select the HRP email, and choose Not Spam to move it back to your Inbox.
- Add to Contacts: Save hannah@hannahrosephotollc.com AND hannahrosephotoiowa@gmail.com to your AOL Contacts.
- Create a Filter: If HRP messages continue going to Spam, use AOL Mail's Settings → More Settings → Filters options to create a rule that sends messages from hannah@hannahrosephotollc.com AND hannahrosephotoiowa@gmail.com to your Inbox.
